Assessment of expected production of a deep‐sea mining system: An integrated model‐based systems engineering and discrete event simulation approach

In this paper, model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and discrete event simulation (DES) are combined to assess the performance of an offshore production system at early stage. Various tools applied industrial case concerning retrieval deep-sea minerals, a engine is developed calculate annual output. A mean 1 Million tonnes ore per year estimated for operation in Norwegian Sea using Monte Carlo simulation. Depending on limiting design wave height marine operations, output ranges from 280,000 1.8 year. The constrained parameter particularly operational limit ship-to-ship transfer operation. We present learning outcome applying MBSE DES discuss important aspects improved performance.
